Tree with natural and homemade ornaments

A tree with natural and homemade ornaments? Nothing beats nature in its pure form, but this activity shows your kids how to build on the natural beauty growing about them.
Plan a hike to find a recipient for your "arboreal splendor." Of course, you can select a tree or shrub that's growing right in your own yard. For decorations, use string to hang pine cones, gumballs, individual flowers, and garlands made out of clover, dandelions, leaves, etc. For decorating fun that takes a little more planning, make your own decorations ahead of rime. You can string some popcorn to make garlands (the birds will enjoy it), or make special tree ornaments out of clay. You can also select several trees and use complementary decorations, or create a "theme arboretum" (flowers on one, medallions on another, and leaf garlands on a third).
